On 10^thJuly 2019, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted an awareness talk on organ donation at Surgical Complex in Indira Gandhi Govt. Medical College(IGMC), Nagpur on the occasion of their Foundation Day. Dr Vaishali C Shelgaonkar (HODDepartment of Anaesthesiology) of Indira Gandhi Govt. Medical College, Nagpur. Arranged the session for class four and attendants including BVG cleaning department.

BVG India Limited is an India’s Largest Integrated Company of Pune. The session which began around 12:30 pm was attended by 50 staffs.

Ms. Prarthana introduced MOHAN Foundation as an NGO working passionately for deceased organ donation past 22 years. She explained the difference between Cardiac Death & Brain Death in-depth. Then she elaborated about the organs & tissues that can be donated by both the cases. She also introduced the public about new advances like Hand Donation. She explained about tissue donation (skin, eyes & bones).

She then discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories articles and news about green corridor. Ms. Prarthana discussed about Myths around Organ donation mostly families of deceased donor have and how to debunk them by explaining relevant facts.She described the importance of discussing about Organ Donation within the family and to carry Donor Card always in purse or wallet.

Crowd asked the following were a few questions asked:

• My family will be charged, if I donate my organ?
• If I am an organ donor,I can’t donate my body to science for research?
• Difference between natural death and brain death?

Ms. Prarthana answered all the queries promptly. We thank to Dr. Vaishali .C. Shelgaonkar and Dean Dr. Ajay Keoliya for supporting the cause of Organ Donation. About 10 pledges were taken.
