Critical Care Conclave Workshop held at Army Hospital (Research & Referral) New Delhi

MOHAN Foundation in partnership with AORTA (Army Organ Retrieval & Transplantation Authority) successfully conducted Critical Care Conclave Workshop on March 16, 2019 at Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi Cantt, New Delhi. The workshop was organized by Department of Nephrology, Army Hospital (R & R).

 

15 medical officers and critical care specialists from various services hospital across India attended the conclave.

 

Lt General U.K. Sharma, Commandant, Army Hospital (R&R) gave the welcome address and Col Vikas Srivastava Senior Advisor, Anesthesia & Critical Care, Army Hospital (R & R) gave an introduction of the day long workshop to the participants.

 

Technical sessions were conducted by the senior faculty from Anesthesia & Critical Care Department of Army Hospital (R &R). Dr. Sumana Navin and Ms. Pallavi Kumar conducted sessions on soft skills, communication & counselling.

 

The workshop addressed the following areas:

  • Brain Stem Death Testing
  • Exploring pitfalls, brain death mimics, spinal reflexes and ancillary testing
  • Maintenance of a brain-dead donor
  • High urine output, high sodium, hypothermia in brain dead donor maintenance
  • Approaching donor families for organ donation
  • Breaking bad news- Toolkit for ICU professionals

 

A variety of activities/practical sessions were moderated by the MOHAN Foundation team like Role allocation- Practical Session, Communication Exercise, etc. These helped the delegates to understand the processes that are involved from identification of a brain-dead donor to a successful donation.

 

The workshop concluded with vote of thanks by Col. Satish Mendonca Director AORTA & Senior Advisor, Med & Nephrology, Army hospital (R & R).
