The one month transplant coordinators’ training programme in Chennai commenced on 1st May 2012. This is the fourth one month training programme that is being done in Chennai. The first two weeks of the training was dedicated to lectures, case studies, workshops/visits to tissue banks.

There were 13 participants from various hospitals in Chennai and Coimbatore. They were a mixed group of nurses and social workers/counsellors. Each group brought its own strengths and this helped in the overall learning process as they could help each other.

Experienced doctors from both the private as well as the government sector were brought on board as faculty. MOHAN Foundation’s Transplant coordinators deputed to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai shared extensive case studies with the group on counselling families of brain dead patients. Recipient coordination was a topic that was also given special emphasis since many go on to don the role of a recipient coordinator.

The participants will be working on their projects either at their place of work or in the community for the next two weeks. On submission of their projects, the participants will be awarded their certificates on 1st June 2012.
