The Cadaver Transplant Programme (CTP), Government of Tamil Nadu, was invited by Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, to participate in an Organ Donation campaign on the topic “What Maharashtra can learn from the Government of Tamil Nadu” on 13^th April 2012. Dr. Thakkar, Cardiologist at Hinduja Hospital coordinated the event.

 

Dr. J. Amalorpavanathan, Convenor, Cadaver Transplant Programme and Transplant Coordinator, Mr.Vijay, from MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) Foundation, were invited to participate in this event.

 

Mr. Milind Murali Deora, Member of Lok Sabha, from Mumbai South constituency presided over the function and quoted “It is the urgent need of the hour to sensitize the general public on organ donation in Mumbai”. He also lauded the Tamil Nadu government for their achievement in deceased organ donation and also paid tribute to all the organ donors. He added that adopting the Tamil Nadu government model would be a formidable task and it would take a while to lay the foundation. He promised his support in increasing awareness about organ donation in Mumbai.

 

Dr. J. Amalorpavanathan, Convenor, Cadaver Transplant programme spoke on the success of the deceased organ donation programme in Tamil Nadu. He gave a thought-provoking presentation and sensitized the audience on how Maharashtra could improve the organ donation scenario in the state.

 

Transplant Coordinator, Mr.Vijay, shared his experiences on the role of a transplant coordinator in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai.

 

Dr. Wadia, Anesthetist shared his thoughts on life after a liver transplant. He is also involved in sensitizing the general public on organ donation through NGOs in Maharashtra.

 

Dr. Thakkar thanked Dr.Amalorpavanathan for his valuable inputs and wished Tamil Nadu continued success in its endeavour to help patients with organ failure.
