On a Sunday morning, 19^th August 2018, nearly 50 family and friends of

Dentists Dr. Rajeshwari and Dr. Siva Ramakrishna met at Presidency Club, Chetpet, to understand about life giving opportunities like – Platelet donation and Organ Donation. On behalf of MOHAN Foundation, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde spoke on Organ Donation.

 

Dr Rajeshwari welcomed the gathering and the speakers.  Dr Ashwin of Egmore Children’s hospital gave a comprehensive explanation about Blood and Platelet donation.

 

Next was a session on Organ Donation, which started with a video of a Recipient explaining her life changes after receiving the gift of life.  This was followed by a talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation that included, why, how, when of donation. A video was also played to explain brain death. The Law and the State procedures for donation, organ allocation was also touched upon.  At the end of the session, there was a lot of discussion on barriers to donation, hospital experiences, organ allocation, directed donations, skin donation, age and diseases as contraindication to donation. Green ribbons and information brochures were distributed to the audience.

 

Dr. Rajeshwari’s son recited a short story on the importance of “Smile”, which everyone appreciated. At the end of the session Dr. Siva Ramakrishna thanked the audience and the speakers for a delightful Sunday. Nearly 30 from the audience pledged their organs and picked a donor card. As a memory of this day, many of them took a picture of themselves with a photo prop of a large donor card.
