MOHAN Foundation conducts a session on the Role of Police during Deceased Donation at TNPA - 3

MOHAN Foundation got an invitation from Tamil Nadu Police Academy (TNPA), Oonamanchery, Chennai  for an awareness talk for the DSP’s and SP’s from Cyber Crime Department. The session was conducted in the Training Lab on 13th July 2018 at 3 PM. Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh, Trivandrum and Mr. T. S. Siva Shankar Helpline Executive, MOHAN Foundation conducted the session.

Before the session one of the officers came in front and he shared his experience of a Brain Death case in Apollo Hospital, Chennai. The officers were given green ribbons and a  survey form on organ donation. Mr. Siva Shankar then started the session with explaining the concepts of organ donation.

He explained the need for organ donation and every officer during the session very receptive to the talk. The officers had good information about organ donation. Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh started the session on “Role of police during a brain death case in a hospital”.

She explained –

  1. who are the people involved in brain death certification
  2. the need to come early for the inquest
  3. the role of a transplant cordinator, police and forensic medicine doctor
  4. the protocol followed when the police arrive to the hospital during a brain death case and
  5. what their duties are for smooth operation of the case and early handing over of body to the donor family.

 

She explained the importance of Green Corridor. The session went on for 50 minutes and some questions asked by the officers were as follows:

  1. Form 1 is for intimation of death or brain death?
  2. Under which section the case should be filed?
  3. Whether the organs are given free of cost?
  4. Who allocates organs?
