Awareness session on Organ Donation at Rabale Police Station, Navi Mumbai

On 15th May 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mr. Pradip Didar, Senior Inspector, for an awareness talk on organ donation.

Mrs. Jigisha Yadav introduced MOHAN Foundation and its missions and objectives. She then asked the police personnel present, as to what came to their minds when they thought of organ donation. The responses were mixed - positive as well as negative.

She then went on to explain the concept of organ donation, types of death, the organs and tissues that can be donated after cardiac death and after brain death, the concept of brain death, difference between brain death and coma.

Various myths and facts related to organ donation were discussed and information about organ allocation, and distribution were also shared. Details of the Toll Free No of MOHAN Foundation were shared.

Mrs. Jigisha Yadav has also explained the legal aspects, the actual role of police when Brain death occurs in Medico Legal cases. Forms 8 and 10 pertaining to Transplantation of Human Organs Act were discussed and they were made familiar with the procedure. It was highlighted to them that time was of essence if such requests were to come to them from the hospital, for their approval. It was explained to them as to how organ donation is a race against time and the procedures for approvals must be acted upon as early as possible.

Around 30 police personnel attended the session. A few queries were raised and they were satisfactorily answered by Mrs. Jigisha Yadav. Some of them took the Pledge to donate their organs while some picked up forms for further signups.
