Reporters and Police Department in Coimbatore organize a joint Organ Donation Awareness Program

Nam Kaval Parvai reporters for the first time organized an event to promote organ donation along with the Police Department in Coimbatore. The program was held on 7th March 2018 at Vijayalakshmi Hall, Saibaba Colony, Coimbatore. Mr. R. Ragavan and Mr. C. V. Nishanth Padhmanathan, Transplant Coordinators deputed from MOHAN Foundation in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital conducted the program.

Mr. R. Ragavan elaborated about the concepts of organ donation and the process of organ transplantation. He gave a brief explanation about brain death and the Tamil Nadu Government Orders. He further shared the concept of tissue donation after cardiac arrest. During the session reporters had many doubts and Mr. R. Ragavan clarified their doubts about organ donation.  

The questions that were asked by the reporters and the police officers are as follows

  1. Difference between Coma and Brain death?
  2. If a patient is brain dead, how can we trust if the patient is really brain dead? 
  3. Is it possible to do pancreas transplant in Tamil Nadu?

There were 50 participants during the session, 30 registered as donors and picked up the donor card to support organ donation.
