Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai organizes organ donation sensitization programme for police officials

On July 28, 2017, Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai organized a sensitization programme for Navi Mumbai Police Officials in view of the recent incident wherein a cop in Navi Mumbai confused the donor family and thus prevented an attempt of organ donation. Ms. Jaya Jairam and Mr. Amit A Shenoy were invited to the programme by Dr. Darius Mirza of Apollo Hospital, Navi Mumbai.

 

The programme started off by a brief introduction by Mr Narendra Trivedi, CEO, Apollo Hospital, Navi Mumbai, a talk by Mr Hemant Nagrale, Police Commissioner, Navi Mumbai Police followed by lamp lighting and lecture sessions on the concept of organ Donation, understanding the concept of brain stem death, role of police in organ donation process. The programme also included a panel discussion on necessary guidelines and statutory framework to be put in place to aid the process of organ donation.

 

The faculty included Dr. Darius Mirza- Director of Liver Transplantation Surgery, Apollo Hospital, Navi Mumbai and Dr. Girish Nair, Neurophysician, Apollo Hospital, Navi Mumbai and Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Secretary, ZTCC Nagpur and Honorary Director of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur.  The members of the panel discussion included Dr. S K Mathur, Vice President and General Secretary of Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) Mumbai, Dr. Gauri Rathod, Assistant Director, Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Govt, of Maharashtra, Dr. Amalorpavanathan Joseph, past secretary of the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu, Sujata Patwardhan, General Secretary of ROTTO-KEM Hospital, Mumbai, Ms. Sujata Ashtekar, ROTTO-KEM Representative, Mumbai and Dr. Darius Mirza of Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai.
