A new NGO in Vyasarpadi begins its activities with an Organ Donation awareness program

Annai Udavum Karangal a newly formed NGO in Vyasarpadi, invited MOHAN Foundation for a awareness program on organ donation on 25th September 2016. The program’s main objective was to make the volunteers and community members aware about the importance of organ donation after death. Being the first program conducted by the members it was apt to dedicate it to the donors. The previous day a staff of MOHAN Foundation had sensitised the volunteers about the cause.

Mr. Ruban Victor, Program Manager was deputed to attend the inauguration program and man the donor registration desk for the public. The inaugural program was attended by various functionaries of the society. The program began with the Tamil Thai Vazthu followed by the welcome speech. The chief guest speech was given Dr. Tanigaiarasu, MS Ortho, Senior Asst. Professor, Royapettah Government Hospital. He highlighted the importance of organ donation and how MOHAN Foundation has helped in creating a huge awareness among people on organ donation. Mr. Pooinga Bakkiyaraj, senior advocate spoke on how the Transplant Act came in process and necessary amendments which were made by the government.

Mr. Ruban from addressed the gathering and spoke on how one donor can give life to 9 different patients, the common cause of brain death and the importance of discussing the will for organ donation with the family members.  The role of police officials who help during the inquest was elaborated.

The final chief guest speech was given by Mr. K.  Joshi Nirmal Kumar IPS, Joint Commissioner Chennai North, spoke on the role on the first ever green corridor conducted by him. He added how is his team coordinated and made sure the vital organ reach the concerned hospital without any delay. He also requested MOHAN Foundation to conduct session on legal issues to the police officials and he promised to extend help towards organising it. The program ended with a vote of thanks by the member.

Around 50 people came forward and pledged to donate their organs.
