Organ Donation Awareness Campaign at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Deonar, Mumbai

On 9th September 2016, MOHAN Foundation was invited by TISS for conducting Organ Donation awareness campaign at TISS, Deonar, Mumbai.

 

Different categories of Creativity contests were announced a week prior, for the students of TISS, on the topic of Organ Donation. The categories included Slogan writing, Photography with slogan, Sketching with slogan, Poems and Poster making with slogan. The winning entries were chosen and prizes were given out by Mrs.Jaya Jairam on the 9th September.

 

The awareness session began with Mrs.Jaya Jairam introducing the concept of Organ donation to the students. She also spoke about the pressing need for organ donation in India and how it can save up to 9 lives. Various myths and barriers to organ donation were discussed in depths. The students had lots of queries which were addressed.

 

MOHAN Foundation invited the second speaker for the day, Dr.Sucheta Desai who is a transplant coordinator at Hinduja hospital. She spoke about grief counselling and different stages of grief. She shared inspiring stories of the heroes who saved many lives even after they were no more.

 

The 3rd speaker for the day was Dr.Alpana Godbole from ZTCC Mumbai. She spoke in detail about the procedures and systems in Maharashtra for registering a person onto the waiting list, ZTCC’s coordinating role in organ sharing, transport of organs etc.

 

Finally the prizes were given out to the contest winners. We wish to convey our sincere gratitude to the organisers at TISS, especially Mrs.Aneka Paul and Mr.Gowrishankar Kamble. We also wish to thank the speakers of the day – Dr.Sucheta Desai and Dr. Alpana Godbole.
