On April 22, 2016, MOHAN Foundation was invited to give an awareness session on organ donation to the students of eleventh and twelfth class of The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. Times of India team organized the session (4th in the school series) as part of their organ donation drive.

 

The founding father of the school Shri N. C. Jain established the school in 2002. His dynamic vision has led to a futuristic approach towards education in accordance with the changing needs of the new millennium.

 

Ms. Kanika Chawla (English teacher for classes 11-12) coordinated the entire program. Dr. Muneet started the session by sharing with the students about MOHAN Foundation and its objectives and activities. It was good to see that many of the students had clarity on the terms of brain death and coma not being the same. She emphasized that the students need to be ambassadors of the cause of organ donation. It is when the young are at the forefront that a cause gets more attention. Students clarified on the law about who all can do living donation in terms of the relationships. It was also stressed that one needs to convey their wish to donate their organs to their family members as India follows the process of 'opt in' system or required consent from the brain dead patient’s family.

 

Ms. Kanika was quite taken up the by the session and wished to have the same for the teachers of the school. The team of MOHAN Foundation also discussed the option of enrolling few selected students from classes 9-11 for ‘Angels of Change’ program and Ms. Kanika liked the suggestion and felt that it would be a good opportunity for the students.

 

A student came personally at the end of the session to thank MF representatives for an interesting and knowledgeable talk.
