Organ Donation camp by Kshmata in Mumbai

The current organ donation rate in India is a measly 0.05 per million. An increase to just 1 per million would be enough to fulfill most of our current demand. These low rates are due to various myths that surround organ donation as well as a general lack of awareness among the population.

To address this issue, an organ donation camp was organized by the students of ‘KSHAMTA’, social responsibility forum of Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy and Technology Management, SVKM’S NMIMS in association with MOHAN Foundation. It was held for an hour, on  6th August 2015 at Oberoi Mall, Goregaon, (East) Mumbai.  Ms Hvovi, a heart transplant recipient and her family who are ambassadors of the cause were present at the camp.

The students performed a street play showing the importance of organ donation. This heartwarming story won the hearts of many and was based on how a single donor saved and changed the lives of two individuals. Organ Donation information pamphlets were handed out to the crowd which explained the details and solved any query that the inquisitive crowd had towards organ donation and also cleared out many misconceptions from the mind of the people regarding organ donation

This initiative by ‘KSHAMTA’ helped MOHAN foundation to win over 20 new donors within an hour, which will help change many lives.
