MOHAN Foundation in partnership with Jeevandan organized a CME program on Brain death Declaration and Donor Optimization at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Gandhi Hospital on 25th April 2015, Hyderabad. The meeting was organized with an objective of sensitizing the medical professionals on deceased organ donation by bringing together all the medical professionals from all the tertiary care hospitals.

 

The program began with an introduction and welcome note by Dr. Swarnalatha, In-charge of Jeevandan program that spoke on the performance of Jeevandan and the requirement of more and more hospitals actively participating in the program. Dr. Sai Praveen, Critical Care specialist at Apollo hospitals spoke on Brain stem death testing and the session was chaired by Dr. Subhash Kaul, Professor & HOD Neurology at NIMS and Dr. Vijaya Saradhi, Professor & HOD Neurosurgery at NIMS.

 

Dr. Raghavendran, professor of Neurology from Chengalpattu Medical College spoke on Brain Death Declaration and challenges faced in the declaration in government hospitals. The session was chaired by Dr. Sri Ranga Laxmi, Professor of Neurology at Osmania Hospital and Dr. Veena, Associate Professor of Neurology at Gandhi Hospital.

 

Later on, Dr. N. Sridhar of MOHAN Foundation spoke on the topic if Brain Death is Death or not and how to a potential donor for a successful donation. He also spoke on the Donor Optimization application launched by MOHAN Foundation in association with National Health Services Blood and Transplant, UK exclusively for medical professionals and transplant coordinators on donor optimization.

 

There was panel discussion on deceased organ donation and transplantation program consisting of Dr. N. Sridhar, Dr. Raghavendran, Dr. Sai Praveen, Dr. Subbaiah Chowdary, and Dr. AK Meena as panel members that had extensively discussed on the implementing this program in all major hospitals.
