Young man gives gift of life to poor patients in Government Hospitals

Mr. Prabhakar, a 22-year-old young man, was declared brain dead at Government General Hospital, Chennai on 23.06.2010 because of head injuries due to a fall from a building. Prabhakar was the second child in the family and he had lost his father a few years back. He was a soft-hearted and kind person by nature. “Prabhakar’s helpful personality endeared him to not only the family, but also to his relatives and friends. He was a loving uncle to the children in his village,” said his uncle.

When Prabhakar was declared brain dead, the family was approached for organ donation by the MOHAN Foundation team of counselors. His brother and family members consulted with each other and came up with the noble decision to donate his organs. This young man saved precious lives by donating his heart valves, liver, kidneys and eyes. All the organs, except the heart valves, were transplanted to poor patients from Government Hospitals who were suffering from organ failure.

The family, even though they were in grief due to the loss of their loved one, cared enough to save some others’ lives. Mr. Prabhakar, a lovable person left his foot prints in this world forever.
