Gaining knowledge on deceased organ donation on Nursing Day in Jaipur

On May 12, on the occasion of Nursing day celebration,  the MOHAN Foundation - Jaipur Citizens Forum  (MFJCF) conducted an awareness drive  for nursing staff  and  nursing students at SMS auditorium, SMS hospital Jaipur.

 

The Chief Guest of this celebration program was Princess Smt.  Diya Kumari ji.

Dr.  Randhir Singh Rao, Additional Medical superintendant, SMS hospital, Jaipur was the  guest of honour.

 

This year MFJCF also set a stall to give information on the subject of Deceased Organ donation. Smt. Prerna Jain, Project assistant, MFJCF explained the concepts of organ donation and transplantation primarily focusing on the types of donations, how to diagnose brain death, tissue donation, the Transplant Law of India and statistics on the said subject.  A short film on brain death was shown. The session was conducted in an interactive manner. All queries were answered. The participants were touched by donor stories.

 

Princess Diya Kumari ji said that the nurses are the main pillar in medical profession of any hospital or medical institute. Without nursing it is impossible to handle so many cases as they works round the clock to give a patient new life.

Diya Kumari ji also said that all nursing staff should remember to work in a way that there is a good environment to handle brain death cases.

 

Dr.  Randhir Rao explained how they and team performed last two cases in SMS Hospital and saved a few lives of patients suffering from end stage organ failure by transplanting organ from a brain dead person. Dr. Rao said in both two cases nursing support was really so helpful to perform the multiple retrieval surgeries and then transplantation surgeries.

 

All nursing student took the oath to help this noble cause and 58 girls and boys pledged  for organ donation.
