Deceased Organ Donation sensitization in Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur

On November 20, 2014, MOHAN Foundation conducted a sensitization session on organ donation for the MBBS Students, Nursing staff, Head of the Departments of Government Medical College & Hospital as well as ZTCC members in Nagpur. Program organized by Dr. Savita Kumbhalkar, member ZTCC as well as associate professor DMB Cardiology Department of Medicine. 

 

The Government Medical College and Hospital is big hospital of Nagpur city and it is very famous in Asian continent. The session was conducted by Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur in the conference room. The session covered key issues like need for organ donation, organ donation rate, priority of organ, myths surrounding organ donation. In his talk Dr. Wankhede explained types of donation, like live donation & donation after Natural death and after Brain death. He also explained the concept of brain death, functions of ZTCC, important provisions in the THO act, importance of proper protocol and cooperation from doctors for organ donation. He explained MOHAN Foundation activities & progress in deceased organ donation in Chennai city.

 

The participants showed keenness for the subject and provided satisfactory responses for the questions raised by the speaker.

1)    What is time duration for organ transplant in each organ?

2)    What processes have to taken for family to be convinced to give their consent for organ donation?

3)    How is brain death cadaver maintained till donation happens?

 

Total 65 participants were present and 8 picked donor cards. After the discussions Dr. Savita Kumbhalkar gave vote of thanks to Dr. Ravi Wankhede & the session was over.
