Residents of Professors Colony, Nagpur have a session on Organ Donation

On 19th October, 2014 a sensitization session on organ donation was organized for the residents of “Professors Colony” in Hanuman Nagar, Nagpur. Dr. Y. S. Deshpande, secretary of the colony was also the program organizer. Dr. Ravi Wankhede conducted the session with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The slides covered the topics underlying organ donation in detail including the types of donation, conditions in which organs can be donated etc.

 

The phenomenon of brain stem death was explained clearly with the help of a short video. The talk was interactive, the residents had some former information about organ donation according to the pre-awareness survey that was taken.

 

Dr. Wankhede also highlighted the role of a transplant coordinator and his/her importance in the hospital setting. He spoke of MOHAN Foundation activities, like training program, Online registry form, helplines and public awareness etc.

 

Question rose by participants:-

1)   How can poor people afford transplantation of organs?

2)   What is the proof that donated organ is not put for commercial purpose?
