On October 21, 2014, an awareness session was organized at UNICEF by the students of Tagore International School who have recently been trained as Peer Educators by MOHAN Foundation to create awareness on organ donation. The students were accompanied by Ms Shivanee Sen, their project coordinator. Ms Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director, Delhi-NCR) accompanied the group to supervise it and to fill in gaps if any.

 

In July 2014, MOHAN Foundation (Delhi-NCR) undertook a pilot project with a select group of 20 students of Tagore International School to train them as "Peer Educators for organ donation". This concept emerges from the belief that educating and training students will result in the education of batch mates, parents, neighbors and other people they are bound to come in contact with. Apart from helping them to grow up as socially conscious individuals, it would help students to be socially productive as well. Also messages given by young people have a far greater impact on the society.

 

The students after intensive training had organized their first session at a company called Securitas last month and 2 students made the presentation jointly. This was the second session organized at UNICEF and two students made the presentation.

 

The talk covered various aspects of organ donation, brain death, THO Act and how individuals can sign up for organ donation. A film on brain death was also shown to the group.

 

Close to 30 people attended. The students delivered the session with precision and confidence and addressed the queries from the audience with expertise.
