On August 11, 2104, an awareness session on Brain Death and Organ Donation was conducted at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) India Pvt. Ltd. at their Noida office.

 

The session was coordinated by Varshneya Kanhaiya of Paramount Health Services TPA Pvt. Ltd. CSC India is one of their clients and the talk was organized at their Hyderabad and Chennai offices as well. CSC is a global leader of next-generation information technology (IT) services and solutions. Their mission is to enable superior returns on clients' technology investments through best-in-class industry solutions, domain expertise and global scale.

 

The session was taken by Ms. Pallavi Kumar. She started the session by questioning those present, what they knew about organ donation and brain death. Following that, she went on to explain what organ donation and brain death was, who could be a donor and what organs and tissues could be donated in-case of brain death and cardiac death respectively. She also touched upon the THO Act and in the end spoke about some myths and facts related to organ donation. A short clip on Brain death was shown to enhance the understanding of all those present.

 

Though the session was attended by only 12 people, it was a very interactive and interested group.

 

One participant shared that her father was on dialysis since the last 12 years, awaiting transplant. Another lady shared that her father has been on dialysis since the last 3 years.  Another participant shared that his wife has cryptogenic liver disease and the same has been diagnosed at the young age of 32 years. The sharing by all 3 individuals drove home the importance of organ donation and the acute shortage of organs.

 

A total of 12 persons attended the session and 15 donor cards were picked up.
