Public awareness session on organ donation for the staff and students of IGDTU (Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University)

The Department of Engineering IGDTU (Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University), organized an awareness session on Organ donation for the students and senior faculty of the university on March 19, 2014. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director (Delhi-NCR), MOHAN Foundation was invited to speak on the subject of Organ donation and Transplantation.

 

Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) was upgraded from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology in May 2013 and has since been an active teaching and research University at Delhi to facilitate and promote studies, research, technology, innovation, incubation and extension work in emerging areas of professional education among women, with focus on engineering, technology, applied sciences, management and its allied areas with the objective to achieve excellence in these and related fields.

 

 IGDTU Vice Chancellor Prof. Nupur Prakash was the driving force behind organizing this session.

 

The session started off at 3.30 am with a welcome address and Ms Pallavi was honored by a bouquet by Prof Nupur Prakash. Ms. Pallavi Kumar started off by inquiring, how many participants present knew about eye donation? Few members knew about it and majority of them were not familiar with the concept of Brain death or organ donation. Various aspects related to Organ donation, statistics and poor national organ donation figures were discussed there-after.

 

Brain death was then explained in detail to ensure the audience had clear understanding of the most vital aspect. Ms Pallavi also shared the recent donation case where-in a French national visiting India was declared brain dead and MOHAN Foundation successfully translated that. The session was interactive and very well received by all those present, the students made sure all doubts were discussed in detail.

 

The talk was attended by many senior faculty members and close to 90 students. Post the session close to 45 Donor Cards were taken.
