On 13^th March 2014 an awareness class  was organised by Mrithasanjeevani (KNOS) for the social work students of University College. The programme consisted of three sessions. Organisational structure and activities of KNOS, Concept of brain death and organ donation, Career guidance for social workers in the field of organ  donation and transplantation.                    

 

  Ms. Neethu Vijayan, Transplant Coordinator, Mrithasanjeevani explained Organisational structure and activities of KNOS. She spoke about the following topics through powerpoint presentation.

2.  KNOS website
3. Objectives of KNOS
4. Activities of KNOS
5. Statistics of donation happened in Kerala
6. Importance of donor card

 

Ms. Saranya S, Trainee Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation explained the Concept of brain death and organ donation. She covered the following topics in the presentation.

 

 1 Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994

 2 Types of donation      

 3 Cardiac death and brain death

 4 Brain death certification  

 5 Organs that can be donated after brain death and cardiac death

 6 Age criteria of the donor

 7 Organ Donation Toll free help line etc.

 

Ms. Kavitha S, Project Manager, Mrithasanjeevani deputed from MOHAN Foundation took a class on Career guidance for social workers in the field of organ transplantation. In her presentation she explained about the transplant coordinator course provided by MOHAN Foundation.  Nearly 5 people showed interest in taking Transplant Coordinators Training course.                 

 

Around 50 students and 1 teacher   participated in the programme. The programme ended with vote of thanks delivered by a trainee social worker.
