On July 27, 2026, Awareness Sessions on  Organ and Eye Donation  were conducted at Government Primary School, Ramapuram, Chennai. The awareness programme was organized by MOHAN Foundation for members of the Magalir Kuzhu (Women’s Group) of the TVK Party. Approximately 15 ladies attended the session and actively participated in the awareness programme.

The awareness session was led by Ms. Nivedha R. Intern and Ms. Kanishka, project executive who introduced the participants to the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation. The session covered key concepts related to  cornea and organ donation, including the significance of deceased organ donation, the concept of brain death, the organ donation process, registration procedures, and the importance of creating awareness within the community. Information regarding eye donation and tissue donation was also discussed, with emphasis on addressing common misconceptions and encouraging informed decisions regarding donation. Educational materials and brochures related to organ and eye donation were shared with the participants to support further awareness.

A separate topic on organ trafficking and illegal organ trade was also discussed during the session. The participants were made aware of the importance of donating organs only through the authorized and legal organ donation system. The session highlighted how misinformation, financial exploitation, and illegal organ trade can adversely affect vulnerable individuals.

The women participated actively by asking questions and seeking clarification regarding organ and eye donation that  provided an opportunity to improve their understanding and to clarify misconceptions surrounding donation. Around 4 participants pledged for eye donation.

The participation of the TVK Magalir Kuzhu provided an opportunity to reach community members who can further share accurate information regarding organ and eye donation with their families and wider communities. The discussion on illegal organ trade further emphasized the role of community members in identifying misinformation and promoting safe, ethical, and legal practices related to organ donation.

MOHAN Foundation expresses its sincere gratitude to Mrs. Rajalakshmi, Head of the Magalir Kuzhu of TVK Party and a teacher at Government Primary School, Ramapuram, for her valuable support and cooperation in organizing and facilitating the awareness programme.
