On July 09, 2026, the Division of Organ Transplant at AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with the Rishikesh Eye Bank, AIIMS Rishikesh, and MOHAN Foundation, conducted an organ and corneal donation awareness session in the Advanced Urology Centre.

The session was conducted by Ms. Bindiya Bhatia, Counsellor, Rishikesh Eye Bank, AIIMS Rishikesh, and Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand and was joined by Mr. Sandeep Goswami, Technician, Rishikesh Eye Bank, AIIMS Rishikesh and Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh. The programme was attended by patients, patient attendants, residents, nursing staff, and support personnel from the Department of Urology.

Ms. Bindiya commenced the session by highlighting the achievements of the Rishikesh Eye Bank and explaining the importance and process of eye donation. She emphasized that eye donation can be facilitated even at home following a death and highlighted the urgent need for corneal donations to restore sight to individuals suffering from corneal blindness. She also explained the role and functioning of an eye bank, causes of corneal blindness, donor eligibility, tissue preservation, corneal evaluation, and the process of pledging for corneal donation.

Mr. Arun engaged participants in an interactive discussion on organ donation, addressing key topics such as donor eligibility, living and deceased donation, brain death and its distinction from coma, eye and skin donation, relevant legal provisions, and common myths and misconceptions. He also introduced the work of MOHAN Foundation and encouraged participants to discuss organ donation with their families to promote greater awareness and acceptance of the cause.

The participants appreciated the collaborative efforts of AIIMS Rishikesh, the Rishikesh Eye Bank, and MOHAN Foundation and expressed their willingness to further spread awareness about organ and tissue donation within their communities.

Approximately 30 individuals attended the session.
