Organ Donation Awareness Desk at the Blood Donation Camp in Porvorim, Goa

On 1 July 2026, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, set up an Organ Donation Information Desk at a voluntary blood donation camp organised by Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School, Porvorim, Rotary Club of Bardez Coastal, Rotary Club of Porvorim, and Loving Hearts Goa, in collaboration with Victor Hospital Blood Bank.

The camp was held in the school hall from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The blood donation camp received an encouraging response from the community, with the majority of donors being parents of students at Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School. Members of the Rotary Club of Bardez Coastal and the Rotary Club of Porvorim also participated enthusiastically, donating blood in support of this noble humanitarian initiative.

Following their blood donation, Mr. Gabriel Pereira interacted with the donors during their post-donation rest period. He expressed his sincere appreciation for their voluntary act of donating blood, highlighting that a single unit of donated blood has the potential to save up to three lives.

During these interactions, Mr. Pereira also emphasised the importance of organ donation and encouraged donors to consider pledging their organs after death. He explained that one deceased organ donor has the potential to save up to eight lives through organ transplantation and enhance the lives of more than 50 individuals through tissue donation. The awareness sessions provided an opportunity to address common misconceptions surrounding organ donation and to educate participants about the need for increased public awareness and family discussions on the subject.

To further support the awareness initiative, 40 copies of MOHAN Foundation's "Frequently Asked Questions on Organ Donation" information leaflet were distributed to donors and attendees. The literature served as an important educational resource, providing factual information on organ and tissue donation and encouraging individuals to make informed decisions about pledging their organs.

At the conclusion of the programme, Mr. Gabriel Pereira conveyed his gratitude to Loving Hearts Goa, Dr. Selena D'Souza, Headmistress of Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School, the members of the Rotary Club of Bardez Coastal, and the Rotary Club of Porvorim for their wholehearted support and for providing MOHAN Foundation with the opportunity to promote organ donation awareness alongside the blood donation camp.
