Eye Donation Awareness Session at Rural Hospital, Virar |
|
On June 24, 2026, an eye donation awareness session was conducted at Rural Hospital, Virar by Mr. Ravi Pawar from the MOHAN Foundation. The programme was organized to raise awareness among the general public, patients, attendants, and healthcare staff about the importance of eye donation and its role in restoring sight to individuals suffering from corneal blindness. During the session, participants were educated about the significance of eye donation, the causes of corneal blindness, eligibility criteria for eye donation, and the step-by-step eye donation process. Information was also shared on the ideal time for eye retrieval after death, the legal and ethical aspects of eye donation, and the importance of informing family members about one's wish to donate eyes. Common myths and misconceptions surrounding eye donation were addressed to help participants make informed decisions. The session was conducted in an interactive manner, encouraging participants to ask questions and clarify their doubts. The importance of pledging for eye donation and spreading awareness within families and communities was emphasized, highlighting that a single eye donor can help restore vision to two individuals. Approximately 20 participants attended the awareness programme and actively participated in the discussion. The session enhanced participants' understanding of eye donation and motivated them to become advocates for this noble cause within their communities. MOHAN Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the Medical Officer, healthcare staff, and the management of Rural Hospital, Virar for their valuable support and cooperation in successfully organizing the eye donation awareness session.
