‘Organ Donation in India, Ethics, Myths & Facts’ session at Dept. of General Surgery, Datta Meghe Medical Collage, Nagpur |

On June 12, 2026, on the occasion of Surgeons Week, MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur was invited to conduct an awareness session on “Organ Donation in India: Ethics, Myths & Facts” at the Department of General Surgery, Datta Meghe Medical College (DMMC), Nagpur. On behalf of MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Veena Wathore and Ms. Neha Sailwar facilitated the session. During the session, Ms. Veena Wathore provided comprehensive insights into the current scenario of organ donation in India. She elaborated on the concepts of organ and tissue donation, donation after brain stem death and circulatory death, legal aspects under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), and the processes involved in organ donation and transplantation. The ethical considerations surrounding organ donation and transplantation were also discussed in detail, along with common myths and facts associated with the subject. The session emphasized the importance of timely identification of potential donors and highlighted the crucial role of healthcare professionals in supporting donor families with empathy and sensitivity. Participants were encouraged to recognize their responsibilities as future healthcare providers and to actively contribute toward raising awareness and strengthening the organ donation movement in society. Real-life experiences and field-based examples were shared to enhance practical understanding and inspire the students. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which students actively participated and raised queries related to legal aspects and the role of medical professionals in facilitating organ donation. All queries were addressed by the MOHAN Foundation team. Approximately 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students attended the session and actively engaged in the discussion.
