On 26th June 2026, an Organ and Eye Donation Awareness Session was conducted at Karaikal Ammaiyar Old Age Home by MOHAN Foundation for senior citizens. Around 25 participants attended the session. Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, MOHAN Foundation, started the session with an introduction about MOHAN Foundation and its activities, followed by an awareness talk on eye donation, explaining its importance, eligibility criteria, and role in restoring vision. The organ donation awareness session was led by Organ donation ambassador Ms. Janani B, who explained organ and tissue donation, deceased organ donation, the donation process, and the organs that can be donated after death. Also highlighted the importance of registering as a donor and spreading awareness among others. The participants actively participated in the session and raised questions related to eye and organ donation. A participant asked whether a person who had undergone eye surgery could donate their eyes after death. The doubts were clarified, helping to remove misconceptions regarding donation eligibility. Awareness brochures related to organ donation and eye donation were distributed to the participants by Ms. Nivedha, Intern to provide further information and encourage awareness. As an outcome of the session, 6 residents pledged their support for full body donation, showing their willingness to contribute towards medical education and research. MOHAN Foundation expresses its sincere gratitude to Mrs. Siva Shanthi, Head of Karaikal Ammaiyar Old Age Home, for providing the opportunity and support to conduct the awareness session. |
