Awareness Session on Organ Donation conducted at Eye OPD, JNIMS |

On June 22, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Eye Out Patient Department (OPD), JNIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was led Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive and she was accompanied by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.
Ms. Priya commenced the session by introducing the team and providing a comprehensive overview of organ donation, explaining the various organs and tissues that can be donated and clearly distinguishing between living and deceased donations. She highlighted the life-saving importance of organ transplantation for patients suffering from end-stage organ failure and emphasized that a single deceased donor can potentially save up to eight lives, illustrating the profound and far-reaching impact of organ donation on society.
She further elaborated on the legal framework governing organ donation, noting that the commercial trade of human organs is strictly prohibited and punishable under the law. Ms. Priya also explained the process of pledging organs, outlining the steps individuals can take to register as organ donors. Stressing the importance of family awareness and support, she encouraged participants to communicate their decision to their loved ones to ensure that their wishes are respected and fulfilled. To reinforce the key messages of the session and promote informed decision-making, informational pamphlets on organ donation were distributed among the participants.
Approximately 20 individuals gained a better understanding of the importance and process of organ donation. |
