MOHAN Foundation Conducts Police Sensitisation Programme on Organ Donation at MPTC

On June 15, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted a sensitisation programme on organ donation at the Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), Pangei, Imphal East, as part of its ongoing police sensitisation initiatives. The programme was attended by Prof. Kangjam Sholay Meitei, Urologist and Transplant Surgeon, JNIMS; Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) and Project Lead, Manipur; Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive; Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive; and Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.

 

The programme was organised with the support of Mr. Sorokhaibam Gautam Singh, IPS, Deputy Director (In-charge Director), MPTC; Mrs. Victoria Yenkhom, IPS, Assistant Director, MPTC; and Mr. A. Devananda Singh, MPS, Additional Superintendent of Police (Adjutant), MPTC. The session commenced with an introduction by Mr. Laishram Manitomba, MPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police, MPTC, who outlined the objectives of the programme and emphasised the importance of organ donation in medico-legal cases.

 

Prof. Sholay highlighted the transplant services established in Manipur and emphasised the need to strengthen public awareness on organ donation. He noted that increased awareness would help improve donation rates and expand access to transplantation services for patients in need.

 

Ms. Monica delivered a session on organ donation, focusing on the role of police personnel in medico-legal cases. She discussed the different types of organ donation, the legal and regulatory framework, brain death certification, and the responsibilities of police personnel in facilitating organ donation through timely documentation and coordination with healthcare professionals.

 

Mr. Bidyananda addressed the participants by dispelling common myths surrounding organ donation and highlighting its life-saving impact. He informed the participants that a single donor can save up to eight lives and encouraged them to register as organ donors and discuss their decision with their families.

 

To reinforce the key messages, FAQs brochures and flowcharts explaining the organ donation process in medico-legal cases were distributed to the participants.

 

Approximately 85 police personnel attended the programme, and two officials pledged to donate their organs, reflecting the positive impact of the sensitisation programme.
