Organ Donation Awareness Session at Nand Nagri Depot Complex, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), New Delhi

On June 17, 2026, MOHAN Foundation (MF),conducted an organ donation awareness session for employees of the Delhi Transport Corporation. The Corporation Office is located at the Nand Nagari Depot Complex, Delhi.

 

The session was conducted by Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation NCR, who also served as the resource person. She was accompanied by Ms. Reema Arya, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation, NCR.

 

Following topics were covered during the session:

  • Importance and need for organ and tissue donation
  • Impact of organ donation in saving and improving lives
  • Organ donor pledge registration process
  • Overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA),1994
  • Brain Stem Death and its significance in deceased organ donation
  • Organ retrieval, allocation, and transplantation process
  • Role of family members in supporting organ donation decisions
  • Common myths and misconceptions related to organ donation
  • Ethical and legal aspects of organ donation and transplantation

 

The session was highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and raising several important questions. Some of the key questions raised included:

 

  • How can we be sure that donated organs are used appropriately and reach genuine recipients?
  • What safeguards are in place to prevent corruption in the organ allocation process?
  • How does the government regulate organ transplantation in India?
  • What measures are taken to prevent illegal organ trade and human organ trafficking?
  • Can a family choose who receives the donated organs?
  • What is the difference between brain stem death and coma?

 

These concerns were addressed by explaining the provisions of THOTA, the role of regulatory authorities, the transparent organ allocation system, and the strict legal measures in place to prevent organ commercialization and trafficking. 

 

A particularly impactful moment during the session occurred when one of the participants shared a personal experience related to organ donation. He informed the audience that a close friend  had been declared brain stem dead a few years ago, following which the family consented to donate multiple organs. Through this noble decision, several lives were saved and improved. The participant's account demonstrated his awareness and understanding of organ donation while highlighting the real-life impact of deceased organ donation. His experience encouraged further discussion among the participants and reinforced the importance of making informed decisions about organ donation.

 

The participants expressed interest in learning more about organ donation and pledged to share the information with their families and communities. Overall, the programme successfully enhanced awareness, addressed misconceptions, and encouraged informed discussions on organ donation, thereby reinforcing the importance of organ donation as a life-saving act.

 

A total of 100 participants attended the session.
