On June 17, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the General Surgery Out Patient Department (OPD) as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was conducted by Mr. Lirenthung N. Kithan, Project Lead, MOHAN Foundation, and attended by Ms. Sedekieno Rino, Programme Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Nagaland.

Mr. Lirenthung began the session by introducing the vision and mission of MOHAN Foundation and highlighting the various activities being implemented in Nagaland to promote awareness on organ donation. He also shared that Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) is in the process of implementing the Human Organ Retrieval and Transplantation programme, which is expected to greatly benefit the people of Nagaland.

During the session, he explained the concept and importance of organ donation, including the organs that can be donated, eligibility to become a donor, and the stages at which donation can take place. He further elaborated on brain death and clarified the difference between brain death and coma to help participants better understand the medical aspects of organ donation.

In addition, he spoke about eye donation and addressed the common myths and facts associated with organ donation to help clear misconceptions among the participants. He also explained the importance of donor cards, their purpose, and how individuals can voluntarily pledge to become organ donors by registering and carrying a donor card. Further, he briefly discussed the laws governing organ donation in India and highlighted the legal consequences for anyone found violating these regulations.

Ms. Sedekieno distributed the informational flyers on organ donation to the participants to provide further knowledge and encourage awareness within the community.

Close to 30 participants attended the awareness session, which helped clarify common myths and misconceptions while also creating awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation in saving lives.
