 Introduction

As part of the Himtrek All India Girls Trek, the HP Girls Battalion, under the leadership of Commanding Officer Col. Vivek Bhatara, organized an Organ Donation Awareness Session at the base camp in Jaypee University, Wakhnaghat.

 The trek brought together 510 girl cadets from diverse states including Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh.

Additionally, the SRDF-MF Foundation was invited by Col. Vivek Bhatara to conduct a specialized awareness program for NCC cadets, which saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 300 cadets and 10 officers.

 Objectives

• Promote awareness about the significance of organ donation.
• Educate cadets on the process, myths, and legal aspects surrounding organ donation in India.
• Encourage participation in spreading the message of saving lives through voluntary organ donation.
• Highlight youth leadership in championing humanitarian causes.

 Key Highlights

• SRDF-MF resource persons explained the importance of organ donation, clarified misconceptions, and presented India’s current status compared with global benchmarks.
• Cadets engaged in discussions, asked questions, and shared perspectives on how youth can contribute to this noble cause.
• Many cadets expressed willingness to pledge their organs, symbolizing their commitment to social responsibility.
• Special Addresses:
  • Mrs. Sangeeta Jamwal, Head of Operations at SRDF-MF, emphasized organ donation as the ultimate “gift of life” and discussed policy frameworks such as the opt-out system.
  • Ms. Preeti Gupta delivered an engaging session covering donor eligibility, differences between natural death, brain death, and coma, eye donation procedures, myths vs. facts, and real-life transplant stories.

Impact

The sessions successfully instilled a sense of responsibility among the cadets. They emphasized that organ donation is not just a medical act but a humanitarian gesture that can save countless lives.

The cadets, representing multiple states, became ambassadors of this cause, ensuring the message reaches a wider audience across India.

The involvement of SRDF-MF added depth to the initiative, inspiring cadets with real-life stories and practical knowledge. Officers encouraged cadets to pledge their organs and spread awareness among family, friends, and teachers, reinforcing the message that donating organs is the ultimate act of giving life.

Conclusion

The Organ Donation Awareness initiatives during Himtrek were meaningful steps that aligned with the trek’s spirit of unity, service, and empowerment. By educating young cadets, the HP Girls Battalion, guided by Commanding Officer Col. Vivek Bhatara, and supported by SRDF-MF, has taken significant strides toward building a more informed and compassionate society.
