A session on organ donation awareness took place at Jagannath Hospital on Radium Road in Ranchi on May 11, 2026. The purpose of the session was to educate patients and their attendants about the significance of organ donation. Approximately 70 participants, including patients and attendants, were in attendance and actively engaged in the discussion.

The session aimed to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation and foster a positive attitude towards this life-saving initiative. Participants were enlightened on how a single organ donor can save multiple lives and greatly enhance the quality of life for others. Detailed explanations were provided on the process, importance, and legal aspects of organ donation.

Following the session, four individuals stepped forward and pledged to donate their organs, signifying a noteworthy outcome of the awareness campaign.

Throughout the session, participants posed various questions. A key inquiry was regarding the concept of "brain death," which was defined as the complete and irreversible cessation of all brain functions, though certain bodily functions may persist with life support. Brain death is legally and medically acknowledged as death, allowing for the possibility of organ donation in such cases.

Another query raised was about the prerequisites for organ donation. It was clarified that organ donation necessitates the donor's consent (pledge), family approval, medical assessment, and confirmation of brain death in instances of cadaveric donation. Emphasis was placed on the adherence to stringent medical and legal protocols during all procedures.

The session effectively addressed participants' queries, boosted awareness, and motivated them to advocate for and endorse the noble cause of organ donation within their families and communities.
