On May 14, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at the New Out Patient Department (OPD) Block, RIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was conducted by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation and he was accompanied by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.
Mr. Paringanba commenced the session by introducing the team and outlining the objectives of the programme. He interacted with the participants to assess their level of awareness and understanding regarding organ donation. Subsequently, he explained the concept of organ donation in detail and clearly distinguished between living and deceased organ donation. He further highlighted the acute shortage of organ donors in Manipur, emphasizing the considerable disparity between the demand for organs and their availability, primarily due to the low rate of deceased donations. He underscored that organ donation offers hope and a renewed opportunity for life to patients in need of organ transplantation.
He further stressed that the buying and selling of organs is illegal and punishable under the law. Addressing common myths, he reassured participants that organ donation does not cause any disfigurement and that the dignity and respect of donors are always preserved. He also highlighted that a single donor can save multiple lives, making organ donation one of the most valuable contributions to humanity.
At the conclusion of the session, participants were encouraged to pledge for organ donation. They were also informed about the toll-free helpline and the contact number of the Manipur office for any queries or assistance related to organ donation.
Informative leaflets were distributed and the session was attended by approximately 25 participants.
