Cornea Donation Awareness Session at NGO - Golden Butterflies

On May 27, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on cornea donation for the staff members and interns of Golden Butterflies Children Palliative Care Foundation. Around 21 staff members and interns actively participated in the programme. Information brochures and green ribbons were distributed to all the participants to reinforce awareness on organ and eye donation.

The session began with an introduction to MOHAN Foundation by Dr Hemal Kanvinde. This was followed by a talk on the Concepts of Cornea Donation. Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, spoke in detail about cornea donation, explaining who can donate, the process of eye retrieval, preservation of corneas, and the impact of eye donation on recipients’ lives. She also addressed common myths and misconceptions related to eye donation and highlighted the need for timely consent from families.

During the interactive session, participants raised several questions regarding cornea donation, including:

  • Can a child’s cornea be transplanted into an adult?
  • How are families counselled for eye donation?
  • Can donor families know who received their organs or corneas?
  • What is the smallest age for cornea donation?

The queries were addressed in detail, helping participants gain a better understanding of the eye donation process and its significance. The session concluded with 11 individuals pledging for eye donation.  A few gave positive feedback to the session.

MOHAN Foundation expressed its sincere gratitude to Ms Clara and the team at Golden Butterflies for providing the opportunity to conduct the awareness session and spread awareness on the importance of cornea donation.
