Awareness Session on Organ and Whole-Body Donation at RK Complex, Rishikesh |

On May 18, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand, conducted an awareness session on organ donation and whole-body donation at RK Complex, Rishikesh, a building housing multiple lawyer offices. The session was organized at the invitation of Mr. Rajendra Kumar Pant, owner of the building, with the aim of creating awareness among members of the legal community about the importance of organ and whole-body donation.
Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, served as the resource speaker for the session and was accompanied by Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand. The programme was attended by advocates and other shopkeepers from the complex.
Mr. Sanchit, commenced the session by inviting the participants to share their current understanding of organ donation, creating an interactive and open environment. He then delivered a comprehensive presentation covering key aspects of organ donation, including:
• What organ donation is and its importance • Who can be an organ donor • Living and deceased donation • Organ donation during life and after death • Brain death and how it differs from coma • Eye donation, skin donation, and corneal preservation after death • The Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994 • Living kidney transplantation facility at AIIMS Rishikesh • Myths and facts about organ donation • Ways individuals can contribute to this noble cause • Goals and objectives of MOHAN Foundation and the Anudaan initiative
Mr. Sanchit concluded the session by highlighting the urgent need for organ donation in India and encouraged students and staff to discuss the subject with their families, friends, and colleagues before pledging.
Following the presentation, participants raised several queries, such as: • How compatibility in organ transplant is assessed? • Which organs and tissues can be donated after natural death? • Whether organs can only be transplanted within the same age group? • How are transplant waiting lists are managed? • Whether donor families receive any incentives from the government? • What legal documentation is required for living and deceased organ donation? • Whether advocates can be members of the State Appropriate Authority?
Participants appreciated the efforts of MOHAN Foundation and expressed their willingness to discuss organ donation with their families.
The session was attended by nearly 20 participants, and 5 participants pledged to donate their corneas through the NOTTO website and motivated others to pledge for this cause too.
