On May 22, 2026, SRDF – MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session at Punjab Red Cross Society, Sector 16, Chandigarh, to sensitize First Aid students on the importance of organ donation.

Ms. Preeti Gupta initiated the session by introducing MF-SRDF and MOHAN Foundation along with its mission and vision. She emphasized organ donation as a true “gift of life.”

The session covered a comprehensive scope of organ donation:

• Concept of organ donation and its lifesaving impact.
• Status of organ donation in India compared with global statistics, highlighting the gap between requirement and donation rates.
• Opt-out policy for further clarity.
• Explanation of live related vs live unrelated donation.
• Differences between natural death, brain death, and coma.
• Dispelling myths about organ donation with factual information.
• Sharing real-life transplant stories to inspire participants.
• Importance of carrying a donor card and steps to pledge for organ donation, encouraging family discussions.

Illustrative Stories

To make the session more relatable, two real-life inspired stories were shared:

• Boy pledging his eyes: A young boy expressed his wish to pledge his eyes after death, but despite his determination, he struggled to convince his family. His story highlighted the importance of family support in fulfilling one’s noble intentions.
• Lady donating her eggs: A courageous woman had already donated her eggs to help others, yet her family never supported her decision. Her example underscored the challenges faced by individuals who choose altruism despite societal or familial resistance.

The session became highly interactive, with students asking questions and receiving clear, satisfactory answers. Around 20 students from Punjab and Chandigarh attended, many showing keen interest and encouragement to register with NOTTO to live on in the lives of others through organ donation.
