MOHAN Foundation Conducts an awareness session at Eye OPD of New OPD Block, RIMS |

On April 24, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ and tissue donation awareness talk at Eye OPD (Out Patient Department) of New OPD Block, RIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was led by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh along with Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation.
The session began with Ms. Priya introducing the team to the participants. She subsequently provided a detailed overview of organ and tissue donation and transplantation, explaining the different organs and tissues that can be donated. She also clearly differentiated between living and deceased donation. In addition, she discussed the current status of organ and tissue donation in Manipur, highlighting that kidney transplantation services are available in government institutions such as RIMS and the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
Ms. Priya also elaborated on the legal provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act (THOA), 1994, emphasizing that any commercial trade in human organs is illegal and subject to strict legal penalties. She further informed the participants about the procedure for pledging organ and tissue donation, explained how the pledge system operates, and underscored the critical importance of obtaining family consent.
The session concluded with a note of appreciation for the participants’ active involvement. Informational pamphlets were distributed to enhance their understanding and help address any remaining questions. Around 15 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights into organ and tissue donation.
