On April 29, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Kshetrigao, and the Department of Community Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), organized an organ donation awareness session at Eastern Point Academy, Kshetri Awang Leikai, Imphal East, Manipur.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives of MOHAN Foundation. The event was part of Immunization Week 2026. Postgraduate medical students and interns from JNIMS participated actively, delivering informative sessions on HPV (Human Papillomavirus) awareness as part of the campaign.
Ms. Priya began the session by introducing the team and elaborating on the concept of organ donation, including the types of organs that can be donated and the differences between living and deceased donation. She emphasized that the buying and selling of organs is strictly prohibited by law. Additionally, she addressed common religious misconceptions surrounding organ donation and provided factual clarifications to promote informed decision-making among participants.
Participants were encouraged to register as organ donors and were reminded of the importance of communicating their decision with family members, as organ retrieval is only undertaken with family consent. She highlighted that this altruistic act has the potential to save lives and improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from end-stage organ failure. To illustrate the life-saving impact of organ donation, she cited a recent case at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI), Langol, and shared the story of the youngest organ donor in Manipur. These examples demonstrated how organ donation can preserve and enhance the lives of recipients through the donor’s selfless contribution.
Informational pamphlets were distributed to all attendees at the session's end. Nearly 50 participants attended, gaining a deeper understanding of how organ donation can save and transform lives. The event successfully increased awareness about organ donation benefits.
