On April 17, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ and tissue donation awareness talk at the Orthopaedics Outpatient Department (OPD), New OPD Block, RIMS. The session was facilitated by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, representing MOHAN Foundation.
Mr. Paringanba commenced the session by introducing the team and explaining the concept of organ and tissue donation. He also clarified the distinction between living and deceased donation. Highlighting the critical shortage of donors in the state of Manipur, he emphasized the significant gap between the demand for organs and tissues and their availability, largely due to the low rate of deceased organ donation. He further explained that organ donation offers renewed hope and a second chance at life to patients suffering from organ failure.
He further reiterated that the buying and selling of organs and tissues are illegal and is a punishable offense. Addressing common myths and misconceptions, he assured the participants that organ and tissue donation does not cause deformity to the donor’s body and that the dignity of the donor is always maintained.
The session concluded with a note of gratitude to the attendees for their time and active engagement. Mr. Paringanba encouraged them to consider organ donation, emphasizing that it has the potential to save many lives and stands as one of the noblest contributions to humanity. Informational leaflets on organ and tissue donation were distributed during the session. Nearly 30 participants attended the awareness talk.
