The Institute of Educational Technology & Vocational Education, Panjab University Chandigarh, organized an awareness session on organ donation in collaboration with MF-SRDF on April 09, 2026. The session was initiated under the guidance of Chairperson Dr Amritpal Kaur with the objective of sensitizing prospective educators about the importance of organ donation and their role in spreading awareness within society.

The objectives of this session were:

• To educate future teachers on the concept of organ donation
• To highlight the status of organ donation in India and compare it globally
• To dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation
• To encourage participants to pledge for organ donation and carry a donor card

Mrs. Preeti Gupta introduced MF-SRDF and MOHAN Foundation, elaborating on its mission and vision. She emphasized organ donation as a gift of life, explaining its impact on saving lives.

Key topics covered included:

• Organ and tissue donation and its lifesaving potential.
• Current requirement vs donation rates in India.
• Comparative statistics of India vs other countries and state-level variations.
• Clarification on opt-out policy.
• Explanation of live related vs live unrelated donation.
• Differences between natural death, brain death, and coma state.
• Addressing myths with factual information.
• Sharing real-life transplant stories to inspire participants.
• Importance of pledging and discussing organ donation with families.

The session evolved into an interactive dialogue, with participants asking insightful questions that were addressed satisfactorily.

A notable highlight of the session was the involvement of four blind students, who courageously shared their personal stories. Their experiences brought a deeply human perspective to the discussion, reinforcing the transformative impact of organ donation.

• Two students shared that their grandparents had donated their eyes, setting a powerful example of compassion and legacy.
• Their testimonies inspired fellow participants, demonstrating how organ donation continues to live on through generations and profoundly changes lives.

Around 45 attended the session and encouraged to register on the NOTTO to live in the lives of others through organ donation. Both professors and students appreciated the efforts put in by MF-SRDF. 

Outcomes of the session

• The session instilled compassion, responsibility, and social awareness among future educators.
• Participants were encouraged to register with NOTTO to contribute to the cause.
• The initiative strengthened the role of teachers as agents of change in promoting organ donation.
• The involvement of blind students and stories of eye donation added emotional depth, motivating attendees to view organ donation as both a personal and societal responsibility.

MF-SRDF extended heartfelt gratitude to the Institute and Chairperson Dr Amritpal Kaur for providing the platform to conduct this meaningful session. The contributions of the blind students and the legacy of their grandparents were especially acknowledged as a beacon of inspiration for all present.
