On March 25, 2026, an organ donation awareness session was conducted at Bero Jan Mahotsav, Ranchi, in collaboration with Azim Premji Foundation. The session focused on ASHA workers and Anganwadi Sahiyas, who are key health functionaries at the community level.

The main objectives of the programme were to create awareness about organ and tissue donation, explain brain death and cardiac death, inform participants about the organs and tissues that can be donated, explain the legal framework of organ donation, address common myths and doubts, and encourage community health workers to spread awareness in their communities.

The session was conducted by Mr. Mukesh Kumar Singh. During the programme, he explained the importance of organ donation and discussed organ and tissue donation, brain death, cardiac death, and eligibility for donation. The legal and ethical aspects of organ donation were also explained. Participants were guided on how community-level awareness can help increase organ donation rates.

A total of 60 ASHA workers and Anganwadi Sahiyas attended the session. It was interactive, and participants asked practical questions related to organ donation. One of the questions raised during the session was, “If someone passes away at home, how can organ donation be done?” The question was answered by explaining the procedures for tissue donation, such as eye donation, and the importance of informing authorised hospitals in a timely manner.

The programme witnessed active participation from community health workers and focused on practical, real-life concerns related to organ donation. Participants appreciated the initiative and showed interest in taking this message forward in their communities.

The session helped improve awareness and knowledge about organ donation among ASHA workers and Anganwadi Sahiyas. They were encouraged to share this knowledge in their respective communities, which will help expand awareness at the grassroots level.
