A talk on ‘Role of Police in Organ donation’ at Dhantoli Police Station, Nagpur

On March 16, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with Care Hospital and Asian KHMC Multispeciality Hospital, Nagpur, conducted an awareness session on the “Role of Police in Organ Donation in MLC cases” at Dhantoli Police Station, Nagpur. The session focused on the importance of police involvement in medico-legal cases, including procedures such as inquest and panchanama, and emphasized the need to streamline processes to prevent delays in organ donation due to legal formalities.

Mrs. Veena Wathore, Project Manager at MOHAN Foundation, was the resource person for the session. She explained that informing the police in organ donation cases ensures transparency and legality, confirms that the donor’s family is well-informed and consenting voluntarily, and rules out any suspicion regarding the cause of death. She highlighted that in such cases; the police must conduct an inquest and complete the required legal documentation.

She further noted that a lack of awareness or clarity among police personnel can sometimes lead to delays, which may affect timely organ retrieval and transplantation. Hence, effective coordination between hospitals and the police is essential. She also provided a comprehensive overview of organ donation and elaborated on the role of police in both medico-legal and non-medico-legal cases.

Mrs. Wathore emphasized the critical role of police in facilitating “Green Corridors” for the swift transport of organs, which requires seamless coordination between traffic police, hospitals, and transport authorities to ensure timely delivery to recipients.

Around 25 police officers from the Ajni Division attended the session and actively participated, showing keen interest in the subject. MOHAN Foundation, along with transplant coordinators Ms. Shubhangi Pokle (Care Hospital) and Ms. Geeta Dikshit (Asian Hospital), expressed sincere gratitude to the ACP and Dhantoli Police Station for their support in organizing the session and for providing a valuable platform to address this important aspect of organ donation.
