Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness session at JNIMS Eye OPD |

On March 23, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an organ and tissue donation awareness talk at the Eye and Medicine Outpatient Departments (OPD), JNIMS. Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, represented MOHAN Foundation.
The session commenced with Ms. Priya introducing the team to the participants. She then delivered a comprehensive overview of organ and tissue donation and transplantation, explaining the various organs and tissues that can be donated while clearly distinguishing between living and deceased donations. She also highlighted the current status of organ and tissue donation in Manipur, noting that kidney and corneal transplantation services are available in the government sector at both RIMS and JNIMS.
Ms. Priya further highlighted the significant gap between the demand and availability of organs and tissues in the state and encouraged the participants to actively promote awareness of deceased organ and tissue donation. She also addressed common myths and misconceptions, emphasizing that organ and tissue donation has the potential to save lives and provide hope to many patients in need. In addition, she explained the provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), outlining its role in regulating organ and tissue donation and transplantation and preventing illegal practices.
Informational pamphlets on organ donation were distributed during the session. Close to 20 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights into organ and tissue donation.
