Organ Donation Ambassador conducts and Awareness at Meyyur Village |
|
On March 12, 2026 Organ Donation Ambassador Mahesh Waran organized an organ and tissue donation awareness talk. The audience were 50 members of the Self-Help Women’s Group of Meyyur village, Thiruvallur District . The session began with Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, explaining about organ donation. She discussed the organs that can be donated as well as the many kinds of donations, including living donation, brain death donation, and circulatory death donation. She also discussed the legal and ethical issues surrounding organ donation, as well as how patients can receive an organ transplant. Since many of the women were unfamiliar with organ donation and related subjects, they were highly attentive and eager to learn. Mahesh Waran, an intern, discussed eye donation awareness in the following session. He discussed typical misconceptions and facts concerning eye donation, as well as other crucial details. In order to uplift the attendees, Ms. Kanishka also provided additional information, such as helpline numbers and real-life examples. Many women raised questions about organ and tissue donation during the interactive session. Among the often asked questions were whether someone with severe blood pressure or diabetes could give organs, whether someone with impaired vision could still donate eyes, and whether it would benefit others. In their feedback, many participants mentioned that they had never heard of organ and tissue donation before. They stated that they were only aware of blood donation up until this point and were unaware that organ donation could occur both during life and after death. Additionally, a few participants mentioned that they had never heard of skin donation before. The MOHAN Foundation expressed its gratitude to Mrs. Retha, Head of the Self-Help Group, for providing the opportunity to conduct the awareness programme, and to the Panchayat Office of Meyyur for providing the space to organize the session.
