On March 5, 2026, the Division of Organ Transplant, AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, organized an organ donation awareness session in the waiting area of the Urology OPD to educate patients and caregivers about the importance of organ donation.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand. It was attended by patient attendants, resident doctors, nursing staff, and support personnel, including bearers and housekeeping staff from the Department of Urology.

During the session, Mr. Sharma introduced MOHAN Foundation and highlighted its mission, vision, and key initiatives to promote organ donation and strengthen transplantation systems in India. He also provided information on eligibility for organ donation, living and deceased donation, the concept of brain death and how it differs from coma, eye and skin donation, the provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994, and living kidney transplantation services available at AIIMS Rishikesh. Common myths and facts related to organ donation were also discussed.

The session saw active participation from attendees, who raised questions regarding who can become an organ donor, the difference between brain death and coma, whether organ donation affects funeral practices, and the process of registering as an organ donor. These queries were addressed to clarify doubts and dispel misconceptions.

Mr. Sharma emphasized the growing need for organ donation in India and encouraged participants to discuss organ donation with their families and communities to help create greater awareness and support.

Approximately 45 individuals attended the session, and four participants pledged to donate their organs by registering on the NOTTO website.
