Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Assagao, Bardez, Goa |

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador for the MOHAN Foundation, delivered a talk on organ donation in partnership with the Goa Catholic Charismatic Renewal Trust and the Pradepa Pallotti Institute of Philosophy and Religion in Assagao, Bardez, Goa. Mr. Pereira introduced the MOHAN Foundation, which was established in 1997 by Dr. SunilShroff, its Founder and Managing Trustee. He emphasised the foundation & extensive operations throughout various regions of India.Using a PowerPoint presentation, he addressed key topics, including circulatory and brain stem death, the process of organ and tissue donation, organ allocation, green corridors, and how to obtain a donor card. He also outlined practical steps for becoming a donor, such as visiting the MOHAN Foundation’s website or opting into organ donation when applying for a driver’slicense.Mr. Pereira engaged the audience by asking if they were aware of the transplant centres in Goa.Those who provided correct answers received a keychain engraved with the MOHANFoundation Organ Donation Transplant Helpline number, 1800 103 7100. He shared that inGoa, only three hospitals perform kidney transplants, while two hospitals perform corneal transplants.To enhance understanding, he distributed frequently asked question flyers to all 30 attendees,which included seminarians from the institute and residents of Assagao. Notably, three individuals signed up to become donors.To reinforce his message, Mr. Pereira recommended watching the film "Aye Zindagi," available on YouTube. The film is based on the true story of Vinay, a software engineer diagnosed withliver cirrhosis, and his emotional journey with grief counsellor Revathy Rajan, whose characteris inspired by Lalitha Raghuram, the Country Director of the MOHAN Foundation. Lalitha andher family made the courageous decision to donate her son’s organs after his passing.In closing, Mr. Pereira expressed his gratitude to Mr. Errol Moraes from the Goa CatholicCharismatic Renewal Trust for organising the event and to Fr. Nelson Rodrigues from thePallotines (SAC), the Superior of the Pradepa Pallotti Institute of Philosophy and Religion, for hosting this important session. |
