Organ Donation Awareness Talk at St Anthony’s High School, Guirim, Mapusa, Goa |
|
On Friday, February 20, 2026, Mr Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador for the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an informative session on organ donation for the students of classes 8 and 9 at St. Anthony’s High School in Guirim, Mapusa, Goa. The goal of the talk was to educate young minds about the importance of organ donation, dispel myths surrounding the topic, and promote thoughtful discussions on how it can save lives. During the session, students were introduced to the organ donation process, the significance of consent, and the positive impact that donors can have on recipients and their families. Using engaging PowerPoint presentations and interactive questions, students learned about the legal and ethical aspects of organ donation in Goa and beyond. Gabriel explained the differences between circulatory death and brain death, as well as which organs and tissues can be donated under these circumstances. He emphasised that, as young ambassadors, the students should remember that only a person who is brain stem dead can be an organ donor, while tissue or whole-body donations can occur when a person dies at home or due to circulatory death. He encouraged them to share this important message beyond the auditorium. Gabriel distributed approximately 240 flyers containing frequently asked questions about organ donation, encouraging the students to share the information with their families. He also expressed gratitude to Fr. Milchester Furtado OFM Cap (Capuchins), the Headmaster of St. Anthony’s High School, for allowing the MOHAN Foundation to conduct this session. Additionally, he shared a presentation video with the headmaster, which included an animated short film by Shweta Gupta and an explainer on brain death, along with a film produced by ROTTO/SOTTO Mumbai to help teachers and staff gain a better understanding of the concept and process of organ donation.
