The session was organized by Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation NCR, who was also the resource person. Ms. Anchal Sharma, Programme Officer, MF NCR, accompanied her.

Ms. Simran led the session by assessing the participants’ existing knowledge and addressing common misconceptions related to organ donation. She explained the fundamental concepts of organ donation through a PowerPoint presentation and a short educational film on brain death. She also provided an overview of the current organ donation scenario in India, highlighted the importance of organ donation, and explained who can become a donor. These topics were comprehensively covered during the session.

The session covered key topics, including:

• Causes of brain death and the difference between brain death and coma.

• The registration process for organ donation.

• The time available for family consent after brain death declaration.

• Status of organ donation in India.

• Transplantation law in India.

• Addressing common misconceptions related to organ donation.

• Role of MOHAN Foundation.

• Role of the public in spreading awareness.

The session was highly interactive, with participants actively engaged through questions and discussion. During the session, participants raised important queries regarding who can be a living donor, to whom they can donate, and what is the procedure involved.

Ms. Simran explained that in India, a living donor can donate an organ only to a close blood relative. She clarified that this regulation is in place to prevent any possibility of monetary transactions and to ensure that organ donation remains ethical and voluntary.

Additional questions raised by participants included:

• Is there any government policy that provides financial support to donor families facing economic constraints?

• Who is prioritized as the recipient of an organ once a donor is identified?

• Is there any cost to the donor’s family for organ donation?

• Which organ can be donated?

• After a successful organ transplant, is there still a chance of death for the patient?

Approximately 70 employees attended the program.
